How long is pumpkin pie spice blend good for?

One thing about spices is that over time, their flavor degrades in a pretty noticeable way. Whole spices tend to have a longer shelf life than ground spices. A good rule of thumb is to replace whole spices every 12 months and ground spices every 6 months.

While using old spices won’t ruin a dish, it will dull the flavor of foods, so it’s best to purchase spices that are less often used in smaller quantities, so as not to waste it.

This pumpkin pie spice recipe makes a total of 5 teaspoons. If you find yourself needing more, double the recipe, but the amount for one batch is small enough so that you’re less likely to waste it.

This pumpkin pie spice is a hit!
